Six Sigma Black Belt, Six Sigma Green Belt for Improvement

Six Sigma Black Belt, and Six Sigma Green Belt are not new levels of Karate, but they are an attack on defects that you may find in industry and in corporations. They are part of a Six Sigma programs for improving quality control, and customer satisfaction, while reducing defects in the product or service.

The Six Sigma Black Belt is a person who is near the top levels of the chain of command in this effort. Under upper level management, they oversee everyone else, almost like a roving shortstop in baseball, ready to stop any flaws that pop up. There are two levels of black belt certification, the Master Black Belt, and Black Belt. The Masters operate as in-house coaches for this program, and they identify projects that should have Six Sigma applied to them. They help the other Black Belts and Green Belts with implementing their tasks. The regular Black Belts focus mainly on getting projects done and they help guide the Green Belts.

A Six Sigma Green Belt is an employee who, along with their regular job at the company, helps to bring Six Sigma process and improvement into the workplace. They are guided by the Black Belts in the implementation of Six Sigma into projects.

The Six Sigma program is a strategy for identifying and getting rid of any causes of defects and errors in the production or business processes. It is a method of quality control that uses specific methods to attempt to reduce these defects and errors. As part of that system, various levels of method enforcers, employees, are designated. The top levels are the Executive Leadership, Champions and Master Black Belt workers. These are managers and those who have the job of identifying problems, projects, and helping Green Belts implement the plans they create for improvement.

Six Sigma is based on the idea that it takes continual efforts to maintain a low level of error and defects, and that this is measurable and therefore can be adjusted, but that everyone from management down needs to commit to the improvement process of Six Sigma. Using Six Sigma Black Belt and Six Sigma Green Belt level employees is integral to the success of this program. The number Six is the goal to reach on a scale of defect reduction, and the highest level of achievement with a defective parts per million opportunity level of 99.9997% efficiency.
